HAND HOOK RUG - A traditional craft originating in Northern Europe, hand hooked rugs were first brought to coastal New England by the emigrating class. Traditionally made with scraps of material brought up through a working foundation, this woven art is now firmly established as a recognized category of American folk art. Inspired by daily life and the natural world, motifs echo a familiar landscape of hearth and home. Spanning the early 19th through mid 20th centuries, these generally smaller scale weavings were created for private use and offer a charming glimpse to America’s own creative past.
